Preschool Mutant Ninja Turtle

We signed up Kieran to a Learn to Hockey. And lucky for him, because he's never really been interested in hockey until very recently, there were 4 spots or so available remaining. The sessions don't start til Nov 20 (weather permitting). But now I needed to get him equipment. Must have been because he's seeing the little kids practicing hockey at his weekly skating lessons. And not knowing how to size a kid for hockey equipment, I checked out Craigslist and couldn't find all the required equipment for his age and size. So I took Kieran to Canadian Tire. It took us well over an hour of figuring out what size hockey equipment fits for a pre-schooler who wants to play hockey. And this kid was getting frustrated, hungry and thirsty.

After trying on 10 or more different pieces of equipment from shoulder pads to pants to gloves to this 1 piece suit that had everything attached to it.

The problem with all the other equipment that we tried on was that Kieran would be a Small in the pants and gloves, but be a Med in the shoulder pads. Putting on the Small/Med shoulder pads from CCM, Winnwell, Easton was easy. It went on but taking it off would rip Kieran's ears off. And he would say they were ALL too small.
It was hard to find the right combination.

Then I found in the next isle the boxes have sizes on it.
Kieran is 110 cm (43 inch) tall. Which puts him right at the low end of the Med sizing. But the problem is the shoulder pads. And if the pads hurt his ears, it'll deter him from wanting to play. So this set comes from Torspo. It comes with everything, including pee-pee protector. It's got a suit that all the pads attach too. It was quite unique. And the shoulder pads have a velcro right down the middle of the chest that allows him to get in/out without shredding the ears.

And he found it comfy, although he was wearing his sweatpants underneath. So he made his choice.
After I got the pants on it was like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. And he was running around and had a difficult time getting up on the bench he was climbing up and down. It was funny. Then he got warm.

The only problem with this set is that it doesn't come with gloves. The other sets all come with gloves and a hockey bag.
So it's comes with a jock, but no gloves. Gloves aren't cheap. But the Med gloves were all too large for Kieran's hands and he couldn't close his hands anyways.

The one nice thing about this suit that I read on reviews, is that you can't lose any of the pads. It's attached to the suit!

But we had to get gloves separately. Which was fine. Since the other box with everything from the other mfg weren't fitting that great. And reviews were saying the same thing. That the sizing was all wrong.
Good thing I looked into this now. I know this stuff is out of stock, the shelves are empty at least for the sizes you need. And all the XXL and XS are left. Which are MED and 6 month enfant sizes in the US.

Looking forward to skating with my little turtle. He'll enjoy falling now, since he's all padded.
