Pass the Salzburg
I picked up our rental car for our Tour of Duty: Slovenia.
I rented it from Avis online when we were still in Canada because you can get a much better deal from this side of the Atlantic. If you go to the airport in Germany without a reservation it's way more money because of the Euro. Martin said I got a SUPER deal!
I got the car that I wanted - the Opel Zafira. There was enough room to get the car seat in the middle and room on either side for an adult.
But it was just a teeny bit tight for Slovenian & Croatian seniors in the back with the car seat.
Kieran's car seat was a Recaro seat. Really slick. He was asking for it when we got back to Toronto and he was using his regular Eddy Bauer seat.
It was a bit of an adventure driving from the airport back into Stuttgart. The car comes with it's own nav system so I turned it on, but everything was in german and so I just left it. I had my TomTom already set up so I was good to go. As I was leaving the airport area the nav system was issuing commands but in german. It was distracting and annoying. I had taken a couple of wrong turns. I finally pulled over to turn everything off so I could concentrate on getting back to the hotel. I finally made it and after 20mins I figured out how to set everything to English.
We stopped in Salzburg on our way to and from Slovenia.
It's about 1/2 halfway between Stuttgart and Murska Sobota.
(It's over 700km from Stuttgart to Murska Sobota.)
On our first stopover in Salzburg we visited the Mozart Museum.
And then we stopped for coffee and a beer.
Later on we ate lunch somewhere around the corner from this cafe - a place called Sternbrau. Founded by stern looking Austrian people, hence the name. You'll see one in the slideshow at the end of this post. You may recognize who it is.
On our second stopover when we were heading back to Stuttgart stopped for lunch (Tresa's dad is looking for the restaurant they ate at 40 years ago when they first escaped from the former Yugoslavia), and we bought some fruit for Kieran. I didn't realize you aren't allowed to touch the fruit. I was lucky the guy didn't see me squeeze the peaches.
We then visited a few really old churches. One church was where all the bishops are buried.
This Tresa's dad taking his 5th picture while on this whole trip.
And then we stopped for coffee and a beer. And sladoled. Which is why Kieran's so happy.
