Wilhelma

We were on our way to the Wilhelma zoo in Stuttgart. Our hotel was at a great location. Pretty much a few city blocks away from downtown and easy access to the U-bahn and S-bahn lines which can take you anywhere.

The City of Toronto can learn a lot about public transit from cities like Stuttgart, London, Singapore, Hong Kong, etc. They want people to use public transit more but the above ground lines aren't very good, the subway lines are basically two routes. East-west and North-south. What good is that?

Instead they build the sheppard line? Way to go Mayor Mel. Useless. Waste of our tax dollars.

In any case the zoo was very hilly, up and down. Lots of things to do for the little kiddies.

In north america they build food courts and arcades to give kids something do and a place to hang out. In Europe they build play areas. Every play area we saw it got bigger and better.

There was an amazon exhibit, the hippos were swimming. The only part we didn't care for was the bird section.
It smelled. That's why Kieran's plugging his nose.

It's a beautiful zoo. Very green. The architecture was pretty. Lots of character. A good mix of modern and classic buildings.

We noticed a lot of storks and nests on buildings, not just in the zoo but also in the city, but more so in Slovenia. It's supposed to be good luck. I guess for the folks who don't have one sitting on their chimney.
