One time at Band Camp

NMC 2017.

We've heard a lot about this camp.
Great things.  How much they loved it and how many of the camp leaders, and volunteers and organizers all came here as kids and wanted to continue being a part of it as they got older.

Camp Wahanowin, near Casino Rama.
Nice grounds.
It's unfortunate the weather wasn't the greatest.  But it still didn't deter the kids from having a great time and wanting to come back next year.

They post pics on their page every day and you need to hunt for your kid like it's "Where's Waldo" cartoon.
And if you don't do the screen grab right away.  When you try to come back for it later to show someone.  It could be gonzo!  That's just how FB works.  It's called optimization.

Since you have no control, the system does that for you.  Based on clicks, visits, etc.

We did find a few photos of our kid.
We found a lot of photos of all of our friend's kids.

Every night I was badgered to get on the NMC FB page to play "Where's Kieran?".

You need a CSI application to scan all the photos with a facial pattern recognition.  It might however bring up some other asian kid (boy or girl).

He really enjoyed himself though.  So he wants to go back next year.  His camp leader Cole was terrific.  we met him at the NMC presentation back in June, so it was nice that Kieran had a familiar face for a camp leader.

For the whole week they work on music pieces for the weekend concert.  And in between the campground has amazing stuff, water and land.  Get this the para-sailing is extra though.   I wanna go to this camp!  Check out the photos and videos.

He even played some of the songs he learned that week for the cottage neighbours.
It is awesome that he does that cuz it can be nervous playing in front of people even close friends and family, but it is even better that they appreciate him so much for playing for them.

Here's a "where's Kieran" photo. He is in this one. You just have to find him!  And post a comment on where you think he is.

And Yahvi is in this one.  Can you spot her?
Sonal does the exact same thing.

I wished I had brought my gopro, It takes HD video. The small canon camera just isn't the same.  A drone would be cool too.  But I'd hate for it to crash into the cellos, viola, or violins.  That would be bad. BAD!

One Pibe

This year marks our 15 or ONE PIBE anniversary.
So I marked it in the ashes of the fire pit at the cottage to commemorate all the ass burns I got over the years from my fiery wife.

So while Kieran was at Band Camp (NMC) we got a week off and Tresa's parents wanted to take us some place special.

And "special" means a place that Baka won't get sick, or doesn't like the food, or the service isn't bad, they don't primarily serve any seafood or some indian spice that she is allergic to.

So they took us to a Pub.

Not just any Pub.
The Old Dominion Hotel and Pub.
That's the pub section on the right there of that hotel that looks like a house in centre of the hustle and bustle of downtown Minden, ON.  It sort of looks like a garage.

In any case the patio was nice.  They had a tiki hut bar, just like the ones that are so popular for so many Americans on those home reno shows.   Along with the 3 car garage, 5 bedroom, 8.5 baths, walk-in closet that's on every young couple's must have list for a home is always a pool and a tiki bar hut to entertain.

This one had a straw roof too.  So authentic!
In any case we wanted to go here, Suwan's, instead which is just around the corner from Old Dominion. The lady that owns and cooks here is Thai, immigrated from Thailand many years ago and her husband is from this area.   It's really good.
But since Thai cooking has "curry dishes", Tresa's mom didn't want to go since she is allergic or got sick from what she said "Indian spice curry".  And curry is curry.

Makes no difference that Thai curry uses different spices.  Or that the word curry was invented by the Brits from the Indian word kari (which means sauce).  Good thing she didn't know that, otherwise she wouldn't eat at any place that has sauce! Heh.

But we did manage to go on the day of our 15th anniversary. This was our anniversary din din.  The surroundings aren't high end or ritzy or even really all that nice. But it was Yum Yum.  Although we did not order any Tom Yum soup (pun intended).  We finished all the curries and didn't get sick.  :)

No leftovers here.
Too bad for Tresa's dad.  He loves the food here.
He always overeats at every meal, but he'd really over eat at this place. Because he wouldn't be allowed in the house with leftovers because of the curry!

I was going to have the mango and glutinous rice dessert but we passed and headed some place we hadn't been in ages.  Simply because we don't drive this way that often.

Kawartha Dairy!

the best thing after spicy dishes is ice cream!
