Pebbly Beach

It was a special milestone for our family.  Turning 65 only happens once.  And if you are lucky enough to get there.

It was my brother's birthday recently and so the golfers in the family headed to Pebble Beach.

I was a bit hesitant to go as I didn't think I was good enough to play here.  But I didn't want to regret not going.  There will always be work to do.  But this was a family thing and family comes first.

I'm a bit nervous traveller.  Mostly because I worry about forgetting something or other.  One thing I didn't plan on was sitting beside someone with a stinky breath.  That's my other worry. Catching some bug from an Asian that didn't wash his/her hands.  They should have a detector in security that filters out dirty asians.

Guy was nice enough as I was chatting with Kim Jung there earlier cuz he had a Samsung S9 and he said he had an iPhone 7 and ditched it for the S9.  Then as the flight went on and he fell asleep there was this awful stench.  And it was sort of coming and going.  Next time i'm bringing a surgical mask like the lady with a row to herself beside me.  Or I shoulda sat with her.

I needed at least a full pack to shove in Jung's mouth.
I was in McGiver mode.

Anyways i used my jacket to cover my nose.  It helped.  I was at least getting the poison air filtered by my NorthFace jacket.  I'm gonna have to clean it later.

To top it off, we missed our connection by 5 mins.  Our flight was delayed leaving and when we landed we were delayed docking at the gate.  Because the guys on the tarmac couldn't plug in the plane.

Our clubs wouldn't have made even if we jumped the gap at the gate and onto the plane like MI:5.
But we almost ALL made it
on to the next flight a 3:15pm.  We were booked for certain on the 9:49pm flight.  But our last member made it on the 6:15pm flight.
It's very common for a flight to be booked or OVERbooked and people just don't show.  That's the reason United overbooks by 10%.

It was a short flight though.  just about an hour.
Picked up by the PB resort driver and we were here.
We got to see the sun set on the Pacific.
And wineCentric was online to select our wines! They were terrific!

This was just after #6.  Somsak from Thailand helped us navigate that wall of a hole.

Golfers go to a Pebbly Beach

When in doubt of what to hit, use the Swiss-Army club.  Works every time.

I overheard some other people saying how if you are going to play one course, make sure it's Pebble Beach.  (Seems to me some American bias there.)  Because I played St Andrews in Scotland, the HOME of golf.  (And cheaper too.)  Which to me is special, but this place comes pretty darn close.  And although i don't really have a bucket list.  I feel pretty fortunate to be able to check this of the list.

If i'm gonna play only 3 rounds of golf.  It'd be with my brothers.

Toronto Life in the Hood!

This was a pleasant surprise for us.  Kieran told us that he was sent down to the office by his school VP.  But that wasn't really anything new for us.  He's been at the office many times since he was in Casa at HMS.

So going to the office at St Mikes (SMCS) was not much of a shock.  I thought I'd soon get a message saying what he was sent in for.

But he told us they selected a bunch of boys for a photo shoot.  I said cool!
I thought it'd be to update their website or brochures or something local to the school.

But a little over a week ago, my friend messages me.  And said "check this out!"
I thought - 'hey that looks like Kieran'.
Hey that is Kieran.

So neat.  Wow it's in a magazine.  Last magazine he was in was the Babys-R-US one when he was 8 months old.
Glad you can't see the paint stain on his uniform pants or that his tie is falling apart.  I've sewed that thing so many times trying to keep it together.  Or the scuffs on his dress shoes.

Believe it or not, that smile on his face is not photoshopped.  He genuinely loves and is immensely proud of his school.  His class has some funny characters and there is good chemistry with all the boys in his class and year.  And he's made some good friends. It's unfortunate that his school buds are not close by.  But that's okay as the TTC is accessible for many of them.  It is the Better Way!  When it's not down.

As long as he loves his school then that's good enough for us.  Someone wise told me that Education is a Gift.  I just wished this gift didn't cost us so much.  But as long as he takes advantage of it and uses it to the max then it'll be worth it.  I'm sure he'll appreciate it later.   Much later.

This is the section of the Toronto Life the advertisement was for.  It was a Guide to Private schools. Not every school is created equal.  And not every school is a good fit for every child.  Fit is an important consideration.

This is the October 2018 issue that this article is in.  It's the Ultimate Neighbourhood ranking.  The issue before is the Burger issue.
I was looking all over the place for the issue and finally found it at the 7-11 near me and bought one.  Just so that we'd have a copy. Then someone (won't say who) did 5 times better than I did.
