Gaffney Lads brew tour

I can hardly wait for this place to not look like this place any more.
I still remember the old gas station that is now the PetroCanada on the corner was an eyesore, now it's this place.

Our area is undergoing change.  And it's great.  Some are more noticeable than others.

St Clair Ave W is a pretty busy strip.  From Jane all the way to Keele.  We're not fans of the increased traffic.  But there's some good change going on.

The Stockyards to the east of us, the Walmart strip to the west of us are examples of good upgrades.  I mean our area isn't the greatest but it's not the worst neighbourhood in TO.

There's definitely better ones out there, but there's also worse ones.

This old Vietnamese grocery store, which I thought was ok then became a Chinese grocery store which stank.  Is now becoming the new site of High Park Brewery in Spring of 2018.
The owners said May time frame.
There's 5 partners in this venture.  None of them were ever in the beer biz, they just love beer.  They hired a brewmaster and started planning their own brewery. And the plans look amazing.  I can't wait for it to open.
It's a big space, there's a basement with conveyers and everything.  I didn't see the basement, but then I wasn't interested in seeing the basement of an ol Chinese Grocery store.

Who knows what's down there.
Could be some illegal immigrants.

A neighbour - Bill - organized the first of many Gaffney Lads beer tours.  We have neighbours and one neighbour that moved but came out to join us.  So it was pretty cool to see everyone.

The tasting at High Park Brewer was awesome.  They gave us pretty big cups of their brews for us to provide some feedback, and then there were refills.  I couldn't make it to the other 2 brew pubs in our immediate vicinity but I will hopefully get out there the next time.

Looking forward to when High Park Brewery is open, but they got a lot of work to do.  And a lot of brewing.  I'll be there to taste for sure!

Not sure if Bill had many tastings when he made these, but it's supposed to be Gaffney.

But that's his house on there.

Mexican Family Day Rama!

It was Family Day.  The busiest day of the year for Sir Sam's.
The temps were going to be just under freezing for most of the weekend.
Monday was calling for rain though.

So we needed to get our skiing in on Sat an Sunday.

We found this guy though it was hard to find him since he usually wears that Elan Green jacket.
We found him next to a big dog.
I had to break out my board cuz I had to give Kieran my ski poles since his were like a 1/2 a foot too short now.
I did ride my board last year but getting up from putting on my bindings is getting harder with each and every year.

I'm gonna need a cane to help me get up.  I wish there was a better way of doing this.  But this is how it is.

For the first time since I've been told to come sit at the poker table, I won!  I'm usually brought in to make my donation to the pot.  Never made a withdrawal before!
I could NOT believe it!  They called me the blind chicken. And also something to do with 'inept', but I couldn't remember the exact phrase. Because there were 3 hands (2 were ALL-IN) that I took that I could not believe I won.

In any case I'm not joining PokerStars World Tour just yet.  This blind chicken needs to enjoy his corn and learn to see the cards a bit better.

Tulips, Cupcakes and Cheese, oh My!

That's Feb 14.  Officially Tulips, Cupcakes and Cheese day.
That's a big beemster wedge there.

Just put it on the VISA!
It's a little scary how high it can get,
but as long as it gets paid out every month, it's fine.

There was more than this.
We had soup.  Potato soup.

Oh ya and I got this vegetarian balsamic pizza, that's really tasty.
Warm it up in the oven for 5-10mins and it's awesome.

We hadn't planned on a meat free dinner.
It's just how it went.
We aren't big carnivores any more.
And to be honest I can't eat the meat as much as I used to.
I just can't metabolize it.  So it's fine.  A good adjustment as I've gotten older.

Then there's the Nintendo dude over there helping out.

I needed to get a taste of all the cupcakes from Rosanne's shop - BakerBots.
They're really good!
