Earth Hour intermission

Earth hour was last night.
1 hr of no power.

Earth Hour Canada

Normally we go out with our day care ladies and their kids and walk around the Bloor West. But there was a leaf game on. So I turned everything off and recorded the game.

We turned out the power. And lit some candles. And a couple of old buddies came by to help us carry on some conversation and polish off a case of beer. I haven't seen these two together in one place since the Big Bop days. And both were too drunk to drive home.

And right when the power came back on, the telecast was showing the leafs winning in OT. It was good game too. Too bad we knew the outcome. Ah well, Leafs Nation was pleased. Although there is no playoffs again this year. The Leafs have been completely overhauled. There is only one remaining leaf. And he's their best puck moving defense man. And he scored the tying goal with minutes remaining from an impossible angle.

There's always next year.

Timbrrrr...err?

It looks like Dedek and I are flying a kite, but we're not. I was put to work to haul down a tree. No workboots, no hardhat. Nothing.

My job was to bring this tree down and haul it over towards the lake like an ox. Not sure if anyone noticed, but I'm not built exactly like Adonis. Birch is light, but when it's 60 ft high, the tree is going to win. I think this is why Baka feeds me like there's no tomorrow, to work the land like a farm animal.

So with the birch tree cut it ended up leaning up against the tree beside it and it didn't fall down and even with two guys tugging at it to pull it down, it wasn't budging.

It was like fishing for marlin in the ocean. And this fish was winning.

We pulled and pulled. It was a tug of war. With just my running shoes, I was slip sliding on the last of the remaining snow.

It felt like I needed to put on another 200 lbs to be able to haul this thing down. It was toying with us.

Almost breaking free a few times.
But one senior and a skinny asian weren't enough to bring down this white giant.

So Paul Bunyun regroups and starts putting in another cut at the base of the leaning birch.
And guess what happens. It could have been worse. The new toy got stuck and didn't want to let go.

Back to the old world methods of an axe and hammer. To get the new fangled toy out from the clutches of the tree.

It was pretty precarious. The tree was eventually going to come down. It just all depended on whether it was taking the brand spanking new chainsaw with it.

This tree was not going down without a fight. It was pissed it had been cut.

It finally came down. It looked like it was going to take down another tree (that Dedek wanted to keep) with it.

Two immigrants, a chainsaw and a felled tree.
It was like we caught Moby Dick, or something.
