Get your feet wet

It was a day of firsts. Kieran's first time walking on sand.

Mama's first time in the "clean" lake Ontario water for dragonboat practice.

The first baby for these two partners.

First time the Wongs Imperial Dragons have been in sync, but unfortunately the boat was docked.

First time Dave has had a pedicure and is wearing two plastic grocery bags to protect the toe nails from chipping.

Brenda's first time on this blog.
I always have my camera.

You can run but you can't hide.

Iris' Andy

You know there was a frog at the critter party that ate like Manu. The frog's eyes go into his head and push the food down. Just like Manu.

Iris and her mixed drinks. This is just before she did a few rounds in just under 5 minutes.

She was mixing a whole slew of drinks that weren't on the menu, but were in her belly instead. And possibly a few more in the toilet or the rubbish bin.

You know I could've posted the pic of you eating a kabob. But I probably would have gotten a phone call.

These two are responsible for the other two getting together. Andy will either be their best friend, or a bitter enemy.

Better get used to this Andy, this is pretty much how it'll be after you get hitched. No more lifting barbells, instead it'll be the trash or boxes of stuff and none of it yours.

This post is dedicated to these two. She's a tier 1 fan of Sukaboy. And he's just understanding what it is. She's also constantly smiling and laughing.

So here's to you Lance and Brenda.
Have a great cruise.

And it doesn't matter who cooked and who waited and ate the food. It's the company that counts.

Pest Control

Kieran's Oshawa based cousin, Liam, had a critter party for his birthday (Thanks Steph and Chris) and it was both creepy, cool and gross at the same time.

Liam was handling a millipede. For some reason I thought millipedes were a lot smaller.

This thing was huge and had sticky feet which felt more like velcro, and not gooey like. The critter lady said it was from Madagascar.
I had it placed on my arm. I video taped it to show family and friends. It was a little dark in the room so it's kind of grainy. But it was creeping me out. WAAAH!

She brought out a blue tongued skink, which felt like a plastic corn on the cob.
Some miniature guinea pigs that looked like a mice.

The tarantula, we didn't get to hold, I think one of the kids would have been killed. Especially this one kid with a toy fan.

If a critter didn't do her in, Steph would have done the job.

There were meal worms, apparently they turn into beetles. But today they turned into food for a humongous frog and a hedgehog. These meal worms are one Fear Factor a lot.

No one touched the frog. The critter has teeth.

The chinchilla felt like a GUND. And Kieran was handling his cage like he was an airport baggage handler. There was also a rabbit. I was waiting for it to lay a chocolate egg and it didn't make a clucking sound.

There was this weired looking hairless guinea pig with red eyes.

The Boa was eerie. I felt all sorts of static electricity, from the snake. It could have been the way the boa was moving around my neck and into my shirt.

For some of the critters, it felt like a contestant on Fear Factor. Good thing I didn't have to eat anything.

Make sure you take notice of the first photo in the slide, this was the first critter that Kieran was handling. It has bulging and beady eyes similar to the hairless guinea pig.
We had to make sure we cleaned him well after that!

Quiet time

We had some technical difficulties here at the Office of Sukaboy. That's why the last post was two days late.

We're back up, but a service guy is coming to look at the wiring outside. We still have a teeny weeny bit of static, but were operational.

One year and counting...

One year ago this was the news. The weather was nice up until the day Kieran was born. Then it got ugly and cold. And we were trapped in our house for a month. Ordering chinese fud.

This year is pretty much that same pattern. it's It's raining, it's pouring, the old man is up, and tired with bags under his eyes. And so's mama's. We're both beat.

We were hoping for sunny days and warm temps, but it's the same weather as 1 year ago today. He came into this world in a downpour. I remember because I went to Burger King to get some food. You see, they only feed the mother in the maternity ward.

We have been busy bees getting the house ready for family and neighbours to come over to our CLEAN home for Kieran's 1st birthday. We don't want to give the impression we're slobs. And renting a hall would have cut into the big screen tv budget. So he lost out. Besides he won't remember anything before the age of 5 anyways, it's all a blur of diapers, boob and naps.

Over the past month we've been doing lots of stuff around the house to get it ready. I even broke out my old speedskating outfit to wear while I was painting around the house. As long as I had coke in my hand I was prepared for anything.

Even our neighbour was a busy beaver. This tree is about 20 years old. Yep older than me. ;-)

The branches actually went all the way to the ground and covered most of the lawn. Probably 80% of it. Joe only needed a weedwacker to mow his lawn.

I was hoping to take pics of the stages as he was taking the tree down, but I was so busy that day that I missed the timberrrr stage.

This started out as a single tree. But with 2 apical buds, actually I think there were 3. It became a triplet.

The tree came down, and a new tree and sod are going in.
And the recycling guys are going to love him.

Did you know that Canadian Tire sells electric chain saws?

Sun sets on 200

It was an outing for the remaining staff at 200 University. Most of the staff was home assigned, so all the contractors had an afternoon off to go see a game that looks like cricket, but way more boring, in a 20 year old landmark with new rubberized turf that reacts like the real thing, instead of that carpet that causes rug burns.

I almost didn't make it to the game. I was the only full-time sun employee that didn't have a ticket. I also realized that I need to filter my email better and sift out those that come from people on the RPE PMO staff.

Lesson learned from Mo.
So I took a photo of the two guys that would have left me standing by the gate while they went in to enjoy the game.

Good thing Mike is my manager, he's always watching my back. He had my ticket, so I made it in. And Cheshmak flagged us down to sit in the prime seats that Robert stamped it-double stamped it.

Mo's trying to use his black belt powers to will a ball over to our seats. Then he started applying metrics to determine why the game was so dull. He had never seen a baseball game so we had to explain what an inning was. That's where I stopped cause once we got in we realized how hungry we were and went in line for food. Then we saw that a hot dog was $3.50 and a combo value pak was $6.52.

What a rip-OFF. I couldn't stand it. We could have had a spicy italian street food for $2 bucks. A loonie for a pop. Just outside those gates we walked in.

When we tried to go out security prevented us from satisfying our hunger. Mo even tried to use some vulcan logic to get us some sustenance. But they failed to understand him. Must be his accent.
So this is where we sat. See where Mo is pointing. Just to the right of that black thing was the remaining folks at 200 University. Right field bleachers under the restaurant.

Mo had never seen the Jumbotron, and he was so impressed with the clarity that he's now made that his standard when looking for a new tv. I think he was thinking of how he could mount it on his wall with the ability to tilt it with as little force as possible.

There was even this guy with a huge lens. You know what they say about the size of a guy's lens.

Good thing we stuck around for as long as we did. We even got money to buy food.
But we couldn't fill our stomachs with amount we'd get in the Rogers Center (aka Skydome). Even if we pooled our money we wouldn't even begin to satisfy Mo. He's a professional eater.

So the Jays lost. Seems like every Toronto team is losing these days. Must be contagious. Like SARS.
I think it was because of the dude that proposed in the seats behind home plate. He jinxed the team.

Then on our way back to the office we saw this famous canadian tv personality who'll probably be the next much music vj. Or some nobody on Train 48. Robert watches that show. Because he rides the GO.

We didn't know who he was. Doubt if we ever will.

So this is how it ends for the 200 University office. With a nobody. Next couple weeks we'll be moving to the Markham office and a stones throw to lots of chinese food.
Great.
Hope there's a toilet close by.

Share and share alike

Teen and Liam came for a visit. It was like a showdown of the titans. Gunfight at the OK corral.

It was a battle over the toys. What's mine is mine. What's yours is mine.

This is great example of how baby cousins share toys.

Liam did share a diaper filled with refried beans, like a rotten burrito. Good thing the next day is garbage day. It made me want to run to the border to get away from the smell.

Splish splash

Kieran's first official swimming lesson. He loves the water. We just gotta remind him not to drink the water.
It's a good thing we're not in Mexico.

Stepping into the Twilight Zone

Kieran's first 10 steps

You'll need the latest Macromedia Flash on your system to be able to play the video. I've been looking for ways to include video on my blog so this one method I was trying out and seeing how it was. I was hoping it would play it in the blogsite but it transfers you to YouTube.com. I'll keep trying.

And my first ride on my road bike. That's no optical illusion. My rear wheel is bent. I didn't even hit anything. All I did was put the pedal to the metal as I was crossing Lakeshore Blvd getting ready to hit the Ellis Ave grade and next thing I knew I stopped dead in my tracks. Good thing there weren't a lot of cars. Or else I would have been on the morning news.

It felt like deja vu. Maybe I someone's trying to tell me something about riding bikes?

Oh well. Third time these wheels have given me problems. So onto EBay they go! Very little mileage. Like new.

April Foolz

Hey Klingon baby, it's the April Fools

We got congrats from Juan Valdez, asking us how LA was. It was great! FOOL.

Actually both Juan and Loonie face called us to find out how Klingon baby was doing. The "I Am Canadian" guy wasn't an April Fool. He's just a fool.

These aren't the only ones that fell for the Star Trek audition joke. There was a whole wack of others that sent their congrats on the baby Klingon role.

Those people know who they are.
haha April Fools on you all! :-P

Persian fare

I'm not referring to french food. We had some ta-cheen. At least that's what I heard Cheshmak call it. Middle eastern food. Mike said it was Persian lasagne.
With the Bush Administration blowing up everything and calling it freedom and building a better society. This was as close to that part of the world as we were going to get.
Plus, this was way better than falafels or schwarmas.

To me it was just good home cooking. I'd take a photo, but I ate it and Mike broke the plate by leaving it on the stove element. But it did keep it warm.

We'd never been over to their place so we hung out there, checked out the view of the city and kept them up, since they got home at 5am from Ottawa. I could tell they were bushed I could see the fatigue on Mike's face and he kept telling us 'good night' and 'thanks for coming over'.

Suka-mama day

Happy Birthday to mama Tresa (not the saint she's long gone, although they both are from the same country).

We got lots of birthday wishes. Most of them via voicemail.
And of course a surprise for mama.

It was a rainy day, but we didn't order any pizzaville pizza. But we did order some thai food take out.

Watched some Prison Break and then it was off to sleep for Kieran.

He was off to sleep 4 times. We gotta fix that. The time change doesn't register yet for him.

One small step for

Kieran...one giant leap for Sukaboy.
At just over 11 months he's beginning to take his first steps at walking on his own. He's been able to stand on his own for about 15 seconds and he's getting better and better at it and finally took his first steps without help. We figure it's just a matter of a few weeks before he finally gives up cruising on all fours.

This is how Kieran got that bump right smack in the middle of his bridge. It wasn't make up for all those April Fools folks. He was over at his grandparents showing them how he can take a few tentative steps. And he showed them how his little feet could take him right into the side of the coffee table.

And a goose egg of a bump was there as proof. Along with a hospital wrist band.
So he's following in his papa's footsteps. The swelling in my face came down months ago.

So he's got a couple of black eyes and the swelling has come down.

Lou came over to pick up the ladder and check out the bump. And Jaedin and Emerson were excited to see their cousin. Lou said it wasn't bothering him as he was checking Kieran out so that was a good sign. It should go away in a week.

No vomiting or more than normal crying so that was also a sign that he didn't suffer a concussion. Now that I think about it I didn't have any vomiting or more than normal crying either when I hit that van. Like father like son and vice versa.

Star Trek : TNG audition

Kieran had an audition to be a Klingon baby for the next feature movie installment of Star Trek: TNG. They had to put makup on him and this rubbery stuff they put right in between his eyes, just to see what he would look like as a Klingon baby.

So they wanted to see what he would look like and if he would have a bad reaction to the makeup and the fake nose piece thing.

The movie is due out next summer so they were doing a casting call for a scene that required a baby Klingon. Apparently this baby grows up to be a very important person in the Federation.

Anyways we got a call yesterday to let us know that the producers were impressed with Kieran's audition and really wanted him. SOOO get this! We all get to fly to LA to film the movie, all expenses paid and our own trailer, driver, you name it! WOO HOO! Hollywood here we come! Papa needs a new car!

I asked if they could leave it on him so I could take some photos and blog about it.

If you want an autograph, it'll cost you.

I meant to put this post up yesterday.

Does anyone know what day it was on Saturday?

April fools! to all the suckers that believed me,
you know who you are...
