Where's that darn groundhog?

March Break...Spring is supposed to be around the corner. That corner seems to be moving further away. The snow that came down last Wednesday was one snowfall I was willing to skip the shoveling.

And so we ditched the shovel and headed north and braved the traffic on the 400. Believe it or not, once we got to Newmarket, the snow had stopped.
Actually it didn't reach that far north.
It was dry as a bone. All we saw was deer crossing the roads.

All the outdoor rinks closed on March 13. But up north the lake was still frozen. In some spots the ice was still 3 to 4 ft thick.

There was a guy ice fishing. Wonder if he caught anything.
Too bad the ice hut we saw was locked.

And there was still enough snow on the lake for us to try out some new skate skis.
Sometimes with a passenger and sometimes without.

And we cleared a section of the lake to skate.
And some else cleared a path for others to follow.

I think I saw this scene in a

commercial.

Magic carpet ride

I'd never been on a magic carpet before. This was it. The one at Centennial is exposed to the elements so when it snows, it can be bogged down.

This one is covered. I wasn't sure if I would fit. But there's plenty of room for adults.

It's broken up into 2 sections. The first gap is the top of the bunny hills. The next section is the top of the hill itself.

Kieran had gone earlier in the week with his cousin Liam and Dedek. He said it was busy. Since it was March Break. It was empty today. It was awesome. We had the runs all to ourselves.

And fortunately or unfortunately, this was where he was taking me.
I'd never been on the terrain park.

Those gates are for the boarder cross start.
And apparently this was bumps he was talking about.

It's pretty steep at first and it was icy and fast. But I did it. I had no choice, my kid was leaving me behind.

Then a few runs later made me do the 'tracks'. He pointed to the rails.

I did the first one. But I ended up straddling it instead. Lucky I didn't hurt myself. And there is another 2 more of these. I kinda avoided the second one and chickened out on the last one.

You know when you get old. You get scared.
And my son was egging me on to do them. So I did them to show that I would try it.
Just glad I didn't impale myself on my poles.

We may do another visit to Sir Sam's on the weekend. Hopefully it's just as empty as this past weekend.
Gotta say. I'm pretty impressed with this kid's skill on the hills. No fear.
Which I balance out with my fear.

Vamanos DAWG!

VCA 2010 RACE RUN from changoman on Vimeo.

You guys gotta check this out.
It's amazing.

This race is in Chile.
It's the Valparaiso Cerro Abajo Urban Downhill Race.
It is an urban race with stairs, sidewalks and stray dogs all part of the course.
It is brilliant.
I would have flipped my bike near the top. And killed that dog.

Artworks 2

This is the second term, this time with Mike instead of Bronwen, only because of the scheduling conflict with the hockey on Saturdays. Mike is more drawing. Where as Bronwen was more 3D and sculpting. Check out his 2D dog. It's name is Doggey. Click me for more photos.
