Pond Hockey

This reminded me of the few times I played pond hockey as a kid and it was snowing.
One of the good and bad things about ice hockey outside.

It was picture day so they changed up the routine. They scrimmaged the whole time today. They used an orange road hockey ball because it was easier to move through the piling snow. It was more like rugby than hockey at times.

Kieran's on the far side. He's in goal.
Not sure if you can make him out. But he's the kid that is farthest in the net. When the play is not in their end he was building snow walls with his hockey stick that made the ball deflect around the goal.

Eventually he made his way out of the net and skated with the other boys.
Then he made his way to the other team's goal and sat on the pylon and waited for the orange ball to come close so he could tap it in. And it worked a few times. It's so fun to watch them all put their arms up in the air when their team scored a goal.

This was our first picture day so I didn't know what to expect. It was a zoo. One of the changerooms was taken up by pictures. And so the others were jammed packed and the hallways were packed. Parents should change their kids at home and just have the skates to put on at the rink. It's easier. But not everyone thinks ahead. This was a tip another parent gave me a long while back. Some even put their skates on and just have them walk in their guards. Not sure how safe that is for the kids.

The Bloor West Village has lots of Organic food type stores. Can you spot the non-organic kids? Just so you know, that boy in the middle at the back, isn't standing on anything to make him taller. This group age is 4-6 yrs. When he sat down, he was the same height as the other kids.
Makes you wonder what he's been eating.

Party like it's 2011

That means, staying in and hitting the sack at half past midnight.
It's not like the old days when we were at Nathan Philips Square.

We had gotten sick over the holidays so staying in was something our bodies were telling us to do. I heard that what you do on New Year's eve is what you will do for the rest of the year.
Does this mean 2011 will be the year of Nyquil and Buckleys?

It was chilli night. So the spread was great. Comfort food. Just what we needed. I'm just hoping I don't have to eat chilli for the next 7 days.
Eventually it starts to get uncomfortable.
Then we broke out the cake and the candles. Kieran says he lights candles at school, but I'm not sure if it's with a match that is quickly burning its way down to the thumb. Anyways he lit 1.
With 30 secs to Midnight we switched to the CityTV countdown channel with lots of balloons. It was 12 deg C out. Yet we were inside feeling the chills.
Actually I was feeling better. I had been taking a pro-biotic since I started getting the abdominal pains and it was starting to make me feel like my old self.

Then breakfast was done for us by Kieran.
He decided he wanted to make us a big breakfast. So he laid out everything that we normally eat for breakfast.
He made toast, brought out the utensils, dishes, butter, jus, milk, cereal. Only thing I had to do was make the pancakes. Then he rang the breakfast bell.
I am hoping 2011 is more like this. Or I have to wait til 2012?

Then it was bowling for dollars.
Actually it was bowling to not get humiliated by the kids.
We were getting beat by a 5 year old.
Well I was.
But in the end I think I beat him out.
But then the hot dogs, fries and the toy machine where you can pick up stuffed fish toys was calling and the adults had 3 lanes to choose from. Bowling is a lot like golf, easy to do, hard to do really well.
And we stank.
Know where this is from?
Well they don't sell it in Canada.
At least not this bar.
It came across the pond.
Not the 7-11 on the other side of High Park.
This came from the UK.
Thanks Anne & Antonio. It's pretty yummy. Tresa and I finished it. I gave Kieran a piece too. It has no nuts. Good choice.
