Where I'm at

It's been a long time since I put an update on the basement reno.
Well, it's getting there.

Tresa with her bum foot has been helping bring down the drywall to the basement to put up.  My brother Mel, has been helping me big time especially with putting up drywall.  And our maltese rental neighbour Sam helped me with the taping and mudding.  He did all the hard joints, like the ceiling.  I did the walls.
Just a bit more mudding, waiting, sanding, mudding, waiting and sanding, and it'll be ready to paint.

It's starting to look like a room again.

This is where I'm at...go to the end of the slide

Fusible Link

The guy at the parts the Subaru Parts desk said he hadn't ordered one of these in 7 or 8 years.  They are very rare.  Lucky me.  I had to order it because they don't stock it.
It's a fusible link.  Sounds like what happens when you get a back operation.  Apparently it's not common any more.  Probably due to more and more electronics being built into cars these days.  A lot has changed since I bought this 1998 Subaru  Legacy.

I had accidentally left my keys in my car for a few hours and left the lights on.  So my battery had drained.

I tried boosting it the next morning.  And noticed a small whiff of smoke coming from the main fuse box.  Went to start the car and nothing.  No starter turning or anything.  I was worried I was in for a big service bill to get it fixed.  Maybe I needed a new starter?

A little while later, Sam came by, then Gus, who used to work on Subarus.  They helped me out.  Sam checked my battery with a tester and he said it was good.  Odd.  Some electronics were working in the car, so that made sense.  Then I mentioned the smoke and opened the Main Fuse box in the engine compartment and there was this burnt out wire.  I didn't know at the time it was a fuse.

Sam made me a by-pass just to get me going.  But Gus said I needed a new fuse.  He even showed me on the back of the fuse box panel what amperage.
Learn something all the time.  They probably saved me towing and service charges.
This was a $7.00 part.
We have amazing neighbours.  It was my lucky day.

Uke fest

It was the Ukrainian Festival down in the Bloor West this past weekend. I was planning on putting up some more drywall in the basement, since the plan was that he'd be visiting my sister's.

In any case, he didn't go. I had spent much of Saturday morning setting my new Pioneer 1121K multizone receiver and if I wasn't such a techie. I would have had to call in the Geek Squad.

The manual clearly has gaps. It is definitely missing some connection scenarios and/or FAQ's. But I got it working. Cuz I'm good.

Thanks internet, Google and AVS Forum. I'm going to have to write to Pioneer and let them know of the deficiencies in their manual.

So it was still a lot of the day remaining. And not a fan of wasting a day inside the house, we headed out. And called on our neighbour to see if Yahvi would like to come with us so Kieran has a partner on the rides.

This lady bug ride's safety restraint system looks a little outdated. Very simple, but not sure how effective it really is.

Adults beware of boarding rides filled with kids. Can you spot the lone adult on this ride.
She was definitely unprepared for the dB levels of the piercing screams of some of these kids. Especially the little boy in row #4 in the corner, directly behind her ear drums.
She should get her hearing checked.

Art in the Park

I think it was Seward Johnson park in Hamilton, NJ.
There is a restaurant in the park called Rat's. And apparently a winner of the Top Chef show was the executive chef of this restaurant.
Follow this link:
Top Chef Rat's Hamilton,NJ

It was so different. There were sculptures that were just modern art.

Some were interactive and involved the surrounding landscape and you can experience it in 3D.

But the really cool works had turned masterpieces of paint and made it 3D.

They turned this one and recreated the artist painting the painting from a scene that you can walk around in. It was really neat.

But check out the 'scream' and the 'silence' versions in the park. They made a building so you can see it from the reverse side of the painting.

It's in the link below.
