7th Angry Bird birthday

It was Kieran's 7th birthday today.

And it was a Sunday.  Coincidentally, there was a school play.  So no party today.  The closest thing we could do was meet up with some family at the Mandarin, afterwards.  Although most of his cousins are teens, it's nice to get all together.  Especially since there are so many of them.

He wasn't too happy at first.  He just woke up from a power nap in the car ride from the school. He wasn't interested in going to buffet, he didn't know family was coming too, he wanted to go home and play with his Unicron and his friends next door.  After some negotiating, we got a deal to bring that smile back.

Angry bird birthday.

Knock-Knock! Who's There?

I didn't understand anything they said in the play.  But it was really good.  I enjoyed it.  I appreciated the work the kids and the school had done to put it together.  There was even dessert afterwards that was really something.

Kieran translated for me. I was so proud he knew what he was saying in Slovenian.

Hela

This is the streetview of Google Maps of our street.
Our watch dog neighbours immortalized forever as we have always known them.  Sitting on the veranda and carrying on a loud conversation with Wilma in the bungalow across the street.
After a while Wilma would slowly make her way over and pull herself up the steps to her spot on the veranda.  I was never sure what they were saying because Wilma would talk in Serbian, while Hela and Ola responded in Polish.

Hela and Ola, have been our only neighbours to the south.

Our two houses might as well have been connected.  Kieran would go over there as if it was his own home.  And these two ladies welcomed him.
I would often find him skipping supper at our house, and instead head over next door for some of Ola's soup.

Kieran knew where the cookies were.  And he would take over their tv and change the channel from Jeopardy! to Treehouse so he could watch Max & Ruby.  And they would watch it with him.

I would often peer into their bay window to see Kieran napping on their couch.
When I would go in to get him, they would tell me he wasn't there.  But there he was wrapped in a crocheted blanket asleep.

Whenever Kieran was sick. A big bowl of soup would be heading our way.  We don't have a doorbell, but I would hear the rapping on our side door and Ola holding a chipped bowl full of home made noodle soup wrapped with towel.

These were his grandmothers.

Hela this morning moved on.
After several heart attacks, but a broken hip caused by a stroke, finally overwhelmed her frail form.
Before the stroke, we weren't seeing Hela much on the veranda.  I would often see her by her bedroom window at the front there.  We knew this day would come, one day.

We will miss her scowling watchdog face on the veranda next door.

100 Samosas on a wall

100 samosas ordered in a box, 100 samosas leftover, take one out and wolf it down.
99 samosas left in the box.
99 samosas left in the box, 99 samosa leftover, take one out and wolf it down.
98 samosas left in the box.

We had an Eastern Indian type birthday for Tresa.
And that was Saturday and we had 100 mini samosas, not including the 15 large ones I had also ordered and only because I had just come from playing ice hockey and my stomach was making some food decisions for me.
Today is Wednesday.  And we are now down to 5 remaining.

We still have rice and lentils and the eggplant leftovers, but I polished off the aloo gobhi desert dish yesterday.  Ordering the food was a bit of an adventure.  If you aren't East Indian, ordering from Brars might be a challenge.  The menu is a bit misleading because they may or may not make that dish that day. It all depends on whether it rains or not.  I dunno.  It's like going to Canada Computers or Tigerdirect, to buy electronic stuff.  Know what you want and don't ask questions, because they'll look at you like you are a foreigner.
In the end we ordered from Curry Twist in the Junction.  It was and always is very good.  And they are very accommodating.  They even put everything on a cart and wheeled it to my car.  It's a restaurant but we just told them we were having 10+ people over and they made it easy for us.  And it was so good.

I'm wondering when my next physical is?  I hope its not any time soon.
Indian food is really tasty, but can be hard on those non-essential organs like the heart.
My GP might prescribe me cholesterol pills.
As long as my benefits plan covers it, and I don't live in the US.  I'm good.

Easter Birthday

This is not yet a big year for Tresa, but it's close.
It didn't start off on the right foot.  Because the right foot's toe isn't even touching the ground.
I hear it.
But we eventually got back on to the path to happy wife, happy life.

Kieran made her a card.  With some help with his teacher.  There was something underneath his note, but he glued it to the card.  So it is hidden forever.

DQ makes our favourite cake.  Because it's all ice cream.
We had it ready for April 3.
But we had to wait for folks to come over.

Some people, I won't say who, couldn't wait.

We tried, but it's hard to resist.
By the time we did have family over for a little get together, it was down to just 'happy'.
But that's what is important any ways.
'Happy-ness'.

No need for candles, because it was about sharing the day with family.

And doing 5 chin ups.
I did my quota for 3 days, to show folks I could do it.

Did anyone miss the meat that wasn't in any of the food?
No right?
Curry Twist has great food.

Ravi #3

Tresa took me to Ravi Soups on Queen St a few months ago.  I think it was prior to the new year.  I discovered that it's the 2nd location for Ravi Soups.  The first one is downtown some where.
So this is location #3.
What was originally here was a burger place with a green sign.  I'd never been there, but was always curious what the food was like.
But I'm happy that Ravi is in our local neighbourhood.
I would like a gourmet burger place too.

The first dish I had was the Corn Chowder with blue crab and wrap combo.  The wrap is the lamb.  I just love it.  I had it again when I went back last week.

The first time I went into Ravi Soup #3, they were still setting up.  They were serving people, but weren't officially open.  When I walked in they sort of looked at me strange, and I had to ask if they were serving.  Lucky for me they were, and I was hungry.

They didn't even have coffee or banana bread that's usually on the counter, let alone credit card payment option.  But they did have a cash register.

As long they had food.  I would have washed dishes.
So I visited them again and had the soup and wrap combo.
They are more or less, complete in their restaurant setup.
The real Grand Opening is supposed to be in a week or so.  Check their site ravisoup.com
I had the Chicken Hot Pot broth which has mango and tamarin flavour based, it's almost like a hot and sour soup, but so much more than that.
I just can't describe it well enough to do it justice.
I didn't try a different wrap, that's the lamb.  It's awesome.  It's spicy and tender.
Mmmm...finger licking good.
Now I'm hungry.  Cost....I think it's under $14.00 with a drink.  The combo itself is just over $12 and change.

It might not look like a lot of food.  But it's about quality and it was enough food for me.  Usually if the food is not so good, they just give you lots of it so you are at least satisfied or so stuffed, you can't tell it wasn't good.
